Terms of Use
These Terms govern use of the Mahj app and related multiplayer, account, and invitation services provided by Obsidian Ventures LLC, a Florida limited liability company in the United States (“Mahj,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using the service after these Terms are presented, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the service.
Accounts
Provide an email address you control and accurate account information. Your username is visible to other players and must not impersonate someone or be abusive or misleading. Keep your login credentials secure, do not share or sell your account, and contact hello@getmahj.com if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account, subject to applicable law.
The service and fair play
Mahj provides digital American Mah Jongg games, collections, social features, and game records. An internet connection is needed for online play. Invitations do not reserve a seat; access depends on table availability and the host’s actions. Features, card years, rules, and available content are described in the app and may change.
Mahj does not provide real-money wagering or cash prizes. Points, rankings, and game scores have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed for money.
You must not harass other players, use discriminatory or threatening names or content, impersonate others, cheat, exploit bugs, bypass access controls, obtain another player’s concealed tiles, interfere with game services, or use the service for unlawful activity. Do not use unauthorized automation against the live service or attempt to access accounts or information you are not permitted to access. Any restrictions on examining software are subject to rights granted by law and applicable open-source licenses.
Report abusive usernames, suspected cheating, or other concerns to hello@getmahj.com. We may investigate and restrict access reasonably needed to protect users or the service.
Your information and content
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle account, gameplay, purchase, and support information. Agreement to these Terms does not replace any separate consent required by law.
You retain any rights you have in names, feedback, and other content you submit. You give us permission to store, reproduce, and display that content only as needed to operate and support the service, including showing your username, table names, and shared results to relevant players. You must have the right to submit it. Do not include sensitive information in public usernames, table names, or invitations.
TestFlight and beta access
Beta access is for testing. Features may be incomplete, change, or become unavailable, and your registered account remains available in the public release. TestFlight access is unrestricted and has no paywall; it does not enroll you in a paid subscription. When you switch to the App Store release, continued app access requires an active trial or subscription, using the same account. Purchases performed in Apple’s TestFlight testing environment do not create real charges. A future paid subscription requires a separate purchase confirmation through Apple.
Apple’s applicable TestFlight terms also apply. We may use feedback and diagnostics provided through Apple to investigate issues and improve Mahj as described in our Privacy Policy.
Purchases and subscriptions when available
Mahj requires an active subscription or eligible trial in the public App Store release. There is no free tier after the trial. Eligible registered email accounts can choose a two-week free trial without a payment or subscription purchase. The trial starts when you choose Start free trial and ends automatically after 14 days. It does not enroll you in a paid plan or charge you when it ends. We send a service email to your account email address when three days remain, stating the trial end date and how to continue. Email delivery may be delayed or fail; the trial still ends on its stated date. To keep playing afterward, you must separately choose and confirm a paid subscription. Your account remains saved if you do not subscribe.
Our intended US paid subscription price is $6.99 per month. Before you confirm an App Store subscription, the offer will identify the included benefits, price, and billing period. Apple displays the actual price and currency before confirmation. The amount and currency shown by Apple at confirmation govern your purchase; these Terms do not promise a particular paid price. The no-payment Mahj trial is separate from Apple’s paid subscription.
Once you separately confirm an auto-renewable paid subscription, it continues and charges your Apple Account for subsequent billing periods unless you cancel. Apple generally processes renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal. You do not need to cancel the no-payment Mahj trial to avoid a charge.
You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings or at Apple’s subscription management page. Cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current paid period. Removing the app, logging out, or deleting your Mahj account does not cancel an Apple subscription.
Use the app’s Restore Purchases option with the Apple Account that made the purchase to restore eligible access. Apple handles App Store billing and refund requests, subject to applicable law and Apple’s policies. You can request a refund through Apple’s Report a Problem service. These Terms do not limit mandatory refund or consumer rights.
Deleting an account or ending access
You can initiate permanent account deletion in Profile → Settings → Delete Account. During an unfinished game, a computer takes your seat so the other players can continue. If you are the last player, the table closes and that unfinished game is removed. If you cannot access your account, contact hello@getmahj.com for help. Deletion is permanent, removes personal account and points records, and does not cancel subscriptions or automatically result in a refund.
Shared games and other players’ results may remain after deletion, with your account link removed from historical player seats. Shared table and group names, previously sent email, and separate support or security records are handled as explained in our Privacy Policy. You may also stop using the service at any time.
We may suspend or terminate access for serious or repeated violations, security risks, fraud, or legal requirements. Where reasonably possible, we will explain the reason and allow you to contact us to challenge an error. We may act immediately where needed to protect users or comply with law. Any effect on paid access remains subject to applicable consumer law and Apple’s billing rules.
App license and intellectual property
For the App Store app, Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement governs the license to use the app unless an applicable custom EULA is separately supplied through Apple. These Terms govern Mahj’s related services and do not reduce rights granted by that license, Apple’s usage rules, or applicable law. Apple is not the provider of Mahj’s multiplayer or support services.
The app, artwork, software, branding, and other service content belong to us or their respective licensors. You may use them as permitted by the app license and applicable law. No ownership is transferred to you. Third-party trademarks and content remain the property of their owners.
Availability and responsibility
We work to maintain Mahj, but uninterrupted or error-free access is not guaranteed. Network interruptions, maintenance, or defects can affect gameplay, results, and saved progress. Beta features are especially subject to change. We will honor obligations imposed by applicable consumer law.
To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” and we disclaim implied warranties not required by law. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the service. These limitations do not exclude liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, or any liability or consumer protection that cannot lawfully be excluded. The app license may contain additional provisions applicable to the licensed app.
Changes, disputes, and contact
We may update these Terms as the service changes. We will revise the date above, provide appropriate notice of material changes, and seek renewed agreement where required. Changes will not remove mandatory consumer rights or retrospectively alter completed purchases. If you disagree with revised Terms, you may stop using the service and delete your account.
If you have a dispute or concern, contact us so we can try to resolve it. These Terms do not require arbitration or waive class-action rights. Applicable law and the rights available in your place of residence determine any mandatory legal protections and court access.
